Graduation Requirements Beginning with the Class of 2016
Graduation from Lincoln Public Schools will require the accumulation of 245 credit hours in grades 9-12, subject to the following:
Within the 245 credit expectation for graduation from high school, grades 9-12, certain areas of study totaling 182.5 credit hours will be required of students. The credits listed are to be earned by taking courses.
(1002) CTE: Career and Business, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health Occupations, 20, at least 5 credits
Technical Education Skilled & Technical Science Fine Arts and 5 credits
(1001) Fine Arts Dance, dramatic arts, music and visual arts Technical Education
(9002) Take Charge 5
(8004) Economics 5
(2010) English including (2020) Oral Communication 40
(3501) Human Behavior 5
(5001) Mathematics including Algebra and Geometry 30
(6002) Physical Education 10
(6001) Health 2.5
(7010) Science including 5 hours each of life, physical (physics & chemistry) and earth science 30
Earth science course; choose from: Geoscience or Geoscience-Diff. 5
Physical science-physics course; choose from: Physical Science, Physical Science-Diff., Physics, or Physics-Diff. 5
Life science course; choose from: Biology or Biology-Diff. 5
Physical science-chemistry course; choose from: Applied Chemistry, Chemistry, or Chemistry-Diff. 5

In addition to accumulating the required number of credit hours, students will also be required to demonstrate that they have necessary reading and writing skills. Demonstrations and standards for successful completion of these skill areas will be developed. Demonstrations may be completed in a particular class and/or independent of a class, depending upon how the demonstration is developed. Demonstrations will not grant credit.
Credit Area Graduation Proficiencies
Reading Demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend newspapers such as the Lincoln
Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald.
Writing Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to write a narrative and an
expository essay consistent with state standards.
Math Take and pass Algebra and Geometry
